When the word "heart disease" comes to mind, many people may feel anxious or afraid to the point of not wanting to hear it. But the truth is, heart disease isn't as scary as you might think. If we understand it and take proper care of ourselves, we can live a normal and happy life.
Knowing is prevention
Heart disease is often caused by high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, or certain lifestyle habits, such as eating too much oily, salty, or sweet food, or lack of exercise. Knowing these risk factors early on allows us to adjust our behavior in time.
Regular health checks
For older adults, regular heart check-ups are crucial. Blood pressure monitors, blood sugar monitors, and electrocardiograms (EKGs) can help us closely monitor our heart health, avoiding the risk of serious symptoms.
Gentle exercise for a strong heart
You don't have to exert yourself. Just walking slowly, doing yoga, or moving your body with stretches every day for 15–30 minutes is enough. Regular movement helps your heart pump blood better and also helps your body feel refreshed.
Eat well, your heart will be happy.
Eating a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fish, and nuts can significantly reduce the burden on your heart, while reducing salt, trans fats, and sugar can help prevent your heart from working too hard.
The heart will be gentle and strong at the same time.
Heart disease isn't something to be afraid of to the point of making life miserable. If we learn to take care of ourselves, use medical equipment to help, and adjust our lifestyle, our hearts can continue to beat strong for a long time.
